About Us

Jim Cox, owner of Jim Cox & Associates, started his design business in 1985, after ten years in the homebuilding business, both in New Mexico and Texas. A graduate of the University of New Mexico, Jim has provided house plans for hundreds of clients. His portfolio includes custom homes ranging from 500 to 14,000 square feet, and spec homes designed for both tract and custom builders throughout South Texas. Our house plans have been used to construct homes in San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Dallas, McAllen, and other cities throughout South Texas, and as far afield as Colorado and North Carolina.

Ronda Ottmers, our Production Manager, is a South Texas graduate of Texas A & M University. Ronda joined the staff of Jim Cox & Associates in 1994 and is an invaluable asset to the company, with accuracy and speed her specialty.

Our architectural and design staff provides services that run the gamut from full custom drawings to builder-type brochures. Our experience and expertise come from projects including not only custom homes, but complete product line development for the non-custom tract builder as well. Additionally, we design site-specific spec homes for the semi-custom builder.

We list as our builder clients a virtual WhoÕs Who in the South Texas building industry with such builders as Pulte Homes, Sitterle Homes, Hearthside Homes, Timeless Homes, Quality Homes of Horseshoe Bay, Destiny Homes, Sitterle Scurlock Homes of McAllen, Creative Homes of Canyon Lake, Japhet Homes, Long Lake Homes of Houston, Lifestyle Homes of Conroe, Monticello Homes and J & J Development.

Our clients request plans in varying styles such as traditional, contemporary, Tudor, country French, Santa Fe design and Texas Hill Country, using standard construction practices. We also work closely with Texas Timber Frame in developing full and partial open timber frame custom homes. We have provided design services and plans and specifications to our light commercial clients on such projects as duplexes, bed and breakfasts, office buildings, dental clinics, beach condominiums and a Holiday Inn Express Hotel.

Our new office is conveniently located in North Central San Antonio at 16170 Jones Maltsberger Road. We are situated in a natural forest setting where deer, squirrels and wild birds eat from our multiple feeders, just outside our conference room.
